Birte Ford began experimenting with nettles in the 1990s when she moved to Scotland. In her quest to find the simplest way to get spinnable fibres from nettles, she has experimented with dew and water retting, the two traditional methods for retting flax and hemp. While both these methods work well for nettles, Birte found a simpler method for a cold northern European climate, which she termed root retting. This book is about her work with wild nettles and her results.

5 stars for Birte Ford. It is a wonderful and very informative, interesting little book filled with her years of study and experimentation. Loved it and highly recommend the author. Beautiful pictures, lovely photos of her tests and work. Nicely put together also. It absolutely is as inspirational as Ms. Ford hoped it would be. I shall use her work to aid and bolster my own experimentation, thank you! Now, on to the paper quality of this lovely book...1 star for the book's quality. The cover immediately rolled itself up on the table between readings (arid California summer and the swamp cooler on part time), which was very disappointing because no other books have this issue. It is not a book I can leave on the table between reading sessions because the cover and pages simply start rolling up! It must be sandwiched between two other books when I am not reading and will not last well. I will have to find a way to preserve this writing because the book has already begun decomposing itself physically.
